PRESENCE
OF
GESTURE

As a street photographer myself, I wanted to take a less descriptive, more abstract approach to this essential photographic genre—to try to bring out its poetry. With the images in the Presence of Gesture, I intended to open up street photography’s hidden narratives to viewers by isolating meaningful fragments of what I see in front of me as I shoot. Hands in these images are often suggesting the presence of humans, and they also relate to stories outside of the frame. I hope that the images in the Presence of Gesture will encourage viewers to see things differently to look for the often mysterious stories behind the scenes we take for granted.
